It is now December! Expect a lot of fun and free holiday events in NYC.

Can you believe we are now in December? The holidays are coming! This is the last month of 2019. Since it is December we only have a few weeks left to clear out goals we had for this year to achieve!

For this month expect holiday events, clothing swaps, workouts, investing classes, pop ups, talking panels, walking tour, and Broadway under the stars.

Please see below for a list of selected free events that are occurring in December 2019 in NYC. Please note, this post will be updated periodically, so please be sure to pin/bookmark and to check in from time to time for more events and updates.

Sunday Yoga with lululemon x Chelsea Market (9am-10am)

Christmas Market and Seasonal Music with Eden Lane Trio (12pm-5pm)

What: Our second annual Christmas Market in the John Ries Memorial Picnic Park at the Onderdonk House with local vendors, including Kings Highway Cider with our friend Rob Hendrickson. Inside the Onderdonk House, you can preview our Christmas decorations, purchase stocking stuffers at our gift shop and enjoy the seasonal sounds of Eden Lane Trio – one of our favorite musical groups. Winter on a Flatbush Farm (1pm-3pm)

What: Join Prospect Park Alliance and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for an afternoon of winter fun. Watch a master spinster spin wool into thread, and enjoy Dutch treats on our outdoor hearth made from a Lefferts family recipe. Enjoy pickled and preserved tastings with NYP Methodist, and last, but not least, a visit from Saint Nicholas on horseback, where children will be presented with treats and have a chance to feed his horse (at 3 pm).

WORLD AIDS DAY 2019 (11am-1pm)

Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony (8pm-10pm)

What:  The 2019 tree will be lit for the first time on Wednesday, December 4 on Rockefeller Plaza. Each year, thousands crowd the sidewalks for the event and millions watch the live broadcast. The tree will remain lit and on display on the plaza between West 48th and 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues through Friday, January 17, 2020.

Tree Lighting Sing-Along (6pm-6:45pm)

What: Bryant Park’s annual tree lighting returns to Bank of America Winter Village on Thursday, December 5 at 6pm with host Alyse Zwick. In addition to fireworks and world-class skaters Ryan Bradley, Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud, and The Haydenettes, this year’s tree lighting features Christmas sing-alongs led by Harlem youth choir DREAM Choir and an appearance by Santa! What:  If you haven’t heard of the Dream Closet before, this is how it works: every Friday from 5-7pm, we invite you to come in and borrow an item (for free!) for the weekend, as long as it’s returned Monday by 7pm. For this special Dream Closet, we teamed up with Birchbox to create a complimentary “Build Your Own Birchbox” where attendees can choose from a variety of hair, makeup, and skincare samples. Any items of clothing that are left over will be donated to Goodwill or fabric-recycled.

What:  The trip: This month we will be heading to the trail head in style as we take trip #1 in our new partnership with Volvo Cars Manhattan. We will meet at 8am at Volvo Cars Manhattan 565 11th Ave for a light complimentary breakfast provided by Volvo before loading up and driving north to Harriman state park at 8:30am. After arriving at the trail head we will trek northward on the Appalachian Trail for a 6-7 mile hike where we will enjoy a quiet winter forest, scenic views and exciting rock scrambles. After the completion of the hike we will load up and head over to District 96 Brewery for food and celebratory drinks (guests are responsible to pay for any purchases made at the brewery).

You’re welcome to bring your own pup; you will be responsible for them during class. Attendees will receive a complimentary first exam at Bond Vet, along with other fun surprises. The Athletic Performance Blueprint: Book Signing and Panel Discussion (1pm-3pm)

What:  Join Dr. Marc Schneider and Justin Roethlingshoefer for the national release of,  “The Athletic Performance Blueprint”.  The event will start at 1pm with  a discussion by noted author and coach Dr. Pat Davidson (The Power Hour and Rethinking The Big Patterns) speaking about principles for designing exercise programs.  Dr. Schneider and Mr. Roethlingshoefer will then discuss an approach to elite athlete training customized by body type, genetics and sport discipline. Refreshments will be provided.

What:  Join us Sip and Read: a bookclub for women hosted at Athleta NYC! We will be networking for the first 20 minutes and then discuss our first read for January, The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates (purchase your copy here ). No need to read the entire book (or even have started!). Sip and Read is a monthly gathering that brings wellness, women, and books together. Have an idea for a book? We can’t wait to hear it!
